Apparently there was only one take with his actual blood. It was fake blood all the other times, including when he smears it on her face.

Fair enough then, but the article did make is sound like he'd just started smearing his blood all over the actress. Method acting or not still a horrible thing to do. I really do hope that wasn't his actual blood he was putting on her.
